Job description.

Our Client is recruiting a Platen Operator for a permanent, full-time position based on site in Thame. The role will suit someone experienced in operating platen presses or similar specialist finishing equipment within a commercial manufacturing environment.

The position pays £19 per hour for 40 hours per week. Shifts rotate between 6.00am–2.00pm, Monday to Friday, and 2.00pm–midnight, Monday to Thursday. On-site parking is provided.

Working alongside production and design colleagues, you will set up and operate machinery, maintain output quality and help minimise downtime and waste.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate and maintain platen presses to produce high-quality finished materials
  • Monitor machine performance and adjust settings for accurate cutting, creasing, embossing and debossing
  • Ensure completed work meets the required quality and safety standards
  • Read and interpret job tickets, specifications and production instructions
  • Carry out routine checks to minimise machine downtime and material waste
  • Identify and resolve basic mechanical and quality issues
  • Work closely with production and design teams throughout the manufacturing process
  • Maintain good housekeeping around the machinery
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across production and finishing processes

Experience required:

  • Previous experience operating platen presses or similar finishing equipment
  • Strong understanding of cutting, creasing, embossing and debossing processes
  • Knowledge of commercial production workflows, die-cutting and high-speed gluing
  • Ability to interpret job specifications, artwork layouts and production instructions accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent approach to quality
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements in a manufacturing setting, including safe machine operation and manual handling
  • Ability to identify and resolve minor mechanical or quality issues on press
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with production, design and quality colleagues
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and finishes and adapt to evolving technology and processes
  • Previous experience within a specialist production or packaging environment would be advantageous
  • Relevant vocational training or an apprenticeship in machine operation or manufacturing would be beneficial
